All Indian Sailors in the Gulf Region Safe, Over 2,262 Return: Government Report

New Delhi, April 14: The government announced on Tuesday that all Indian sailors in the Gulf region are completely safe. In the past 24 hours, no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels have been reported.

The Ministry of Shipping, Ports, and Waterways stated in an official release that the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has successfully facilitated the safe return of over 2,262 Indian sailors from various locations in the Gulf, including 85 individuals in the last 24 hours.

Since the activation of the DG Shipping control room, it has handled 6,292 calls and over 13,228 emails. This includes 219 calls and 361 emails in the past day alone.

The ministry confirmed that operations at ports across the country are running normally, with no reports of crowds or disruptions.

The statement emphasized that the ministry is in continuous coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the safety of Indian sailors and the uninterrupted operation of maritime activities.

Additionally, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that Indian embassies and missions in the Gulf region are in constant contact with the Indian community, issuing necessary advisories for their safety.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has engaged in discussions with the foreign ministers of Kuwait and Israel regarding the regional situation and the safety of Indians residing there. He has also spoken with his counterparts in Singapore and Australia about the conditions in West Asia.

The ministry is maintaining regular communication with states and union territories to enhance information sharing and strengthen coordination.

The government reiterated that ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of Indian citizens is its top priority. Indian embassies are providing assistance through a 24-hour helpline and are in constant contact with local authorities.
