Imphal, April 14: The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU-AMN) has successfully elected its new leadership for the three-year term from 2026 to 2029. The elections took place on Tuesday in Namdunlung, the capital of Manipur.
Students from Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland participated enthusiastically in the elections. Several senior members, former leaders, and well-wishers were present, adding to the event’s significance.
The presidential race featured two strong candidates: Haehengbe Kuame from the Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Assam and Amombo Zeliang from the Zeliangrong Students’ Union of Nagaland. The contest was thrilling, with Haehengbe Kuame winning by a narrow margin of just one vote. He received 21 votes, while Amombo Zeliang garnered 20 votes.
Chiheuding Khate was elected unopposed as the Public Relations Secretary, and Hekanghingbe Nyume was chosen as the Treasurer. The remaining vacant positions will be filled later by the new team through executive expansion.
This slim margin reflects the equal confidence members have in both candidates and the democratic maturity of the organization. The assembly accepted this mandate with unity and dignity.
In congratulating the newly elected president Haehengbe Kuame and his team, the organization stated, “Today, no one has lost, as the unity and collective strength of the Zeliangrong family have triumphed.” The defeated candidate, Amombo Zeliang, also received best wishes for his commendable performance.
The election process concluded with a closing speech by election commission member Vitono Haralu. Following this, the assembly collectively chanted the traditional Zeliangrong slogan, “Zeliangrong Ringte Lou.” The event ended with a prayer of blessing by servant of God Kadichun Kamei.
The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union (AZSU-AMN) is a leading organization for Zeliangrong community students in Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland. This election is considered crucial in determining the future direction of the organization. The new team will focus on protecting the interests of Zeliangrong students, education, cultural preservation, and youth development over the next three years.
