Washington, August 22: During a campaign rally in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, U.S. President Donald Trump once again declared the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory. He emphasized that Iran must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
At this rally, Trump was campaigning in support of Republican Senate candidate Darlene Graham ahead of the upcoming runoff elections.
Discussing Iran, Trump stated, “They are desperate for a deal.” He referred to the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, asserting it belongs to the United States. However, he did not provide any legal or territorial basis for this claim. Trump noted that tensions with Iran have impacted their domestic economic agenda.
“I don’t like doing this, but we had to shift our focus towards the Islamic Republic of Iran because of the nuclear weapons issue. They were on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons, and we cannot allow that,” he said.
He reiterated that the U.S. cannot permit Iran to possess nuclear arms, claiming that American actions have mitigated this threat. “We went in and stopped them. They will never have nuclear weapons,” Trump asserted.
He claimed that Iran has suffered significant losses to its military leadership and infrastructure. According to him, the country no longer possesses an effective navy, air force, radar capabilities, or a strong manufacturing base.
He remarked that their top leaders are gone, and many second-tier leaders have also been eliminated. The extent of the losses is so severe that advancing any potential negotiations has become challenging. “This is one of my biggest problems. I don’t even know who to talk to,” he added.
Later, the president referenced the song “The Snake,” which he often uses at rallies to promote his immigration policies.
Trump linked the Iran issue to energy prices, stating that once tensions ease, oil and gasoline prices will drop. “As soon as our dealings with the Islamic Republic of Iran are resolved, oil prices will be lower than before,” he said.
This rally was primarily organized to rally Republican voters in support of Darlene Graham. Trump repeatedly urged his supporters to treat this election as if their name were on the ballot.
Graham, the candidate backed by Trump, assured her supporters that she stands firmly with the president. “I will support President Trump 100 percent,” she declared.
