Tehran, June 25: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran announced on Thursday that only the routes designated by Iranian authorities are permissible for ships passing through the Hormuz Strait.
The IRGC Navy made this statement through an official release on its news website, Sepah News. They cautioned that using any routes outside the designated ones is dangerous and not allowed.
The statement emphasized that all vessels must adhere to the routes declared by Iran for transit through the Hormuz Strait. Navigating outside these routes is deemed highly risky, restricted, and should be avoided.
This warning follows the issuance of guidelines for ships exiting the Hormuz Strait by Oman’s Maritime Security Center, in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
On June 18, as part of an agreement to end hostilities between Iran and the United States, Iran committed to facilitating safe passage for commercial vessels through this waterway without any charges for 60 days.
On Tuesday, Iran and Oman jointly announced their agreement to form a working group to discuss the future management of shipping traffic in the Hormuz Strait. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safe passage of vessels in accordance with international law.
Meanwhile, the IMO has also unveiled a plan to evacuate over 11,000 sailors stranded in the Hormuz Strait.
IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez stated on Tuesday that the organization has secured necessary safety approvals and confirmed the security of maritime routes for the evacuation operation.
He noted that this operation will commence following the agreement between Iran and the United States and will be conducted in collaboration with Iran, Oman, other regional countries, and the maritime industry.
