Political Tensions Rise as Former Kerala CMs Daughter Appears Before ED

Kochi, June 25: Political tensions have escalated following the unexpected appearance of Veena Vijayan, daughter of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, before Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Kochi. This event marks the second round of questioning related to allegations involving Veena and her now-defunct IT firm, Exalogic Solutions.

Reports indicate that Veena was scheduled to appear before the central agency on June 29. However, she arrived at the ED office at approximately 9:15 AM on Thursday, four days ahead of her appointed date. Sources suggest that the ED had requested her early appearance.

This surprise visit comes amid an ongoing investigation into controversial financial transactions linked to Exalogic Solutions and payments received from Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL). The ED’s investigation team has already conducted extensive questioning of top officials from CMRL.

Recently, the ED obtained records and materials collected by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), which is probing the alleged transactions and corporate arrangements related to this case. Investigators are believed to be scrutinizing financial transactions, company records, banking dealings, and statements recorded during previous rounds of questioning.

This development is significant as the ED seeks to advance findings that have already emerged from the SFIO investigation. Authorities are examining whether the payments made to Exalogic had any legitimate business justification or if they indicate potential violations of financial and anti-money laundering laws.

The inquiry scheduled for Thursday is under close scrutiny due to its potential political ramifications. This case has long been a focal point for opposition parties, who accuse the Vijayan family of failing to provide adequate explanations regarding the transactions under investigation.

Both the former Chief Minister and his party have consistently denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the investigation is politically motivated. With the ED intensifying its inquiry and new materials gathered from parallel investigations, the Vijayan family is once again in the spotlight.
