Chandigarh, June 25: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has addressed a viral video allegedly linked to the disrespect of Guru Sahib. He labeled the video as fake and claimed it is an attempt to tarnish his religious reputation.
During a press conference, Mann stated, “The opposition parties cannot compete politically because they have become irrelevant at the grassroots level. As a result, they issue orders daily to defame me religiously.”
He emphasized the government’s achievements in social, economic, and religious spheres, stating, “No previous government has worked for Punjab’s people like we have. Whether it’s the law against sacrilege, tax exemptions on religious texts’ vehicles, or the special assembly session in Anandpur Sahib, the opposition cannot match these efforts. This is why all political parties are targeting me.”
Mann further remarked, “The opposition is trying to spread my fake video to incite hatred against me, but that will not succeed.”
Regarding a social boycott board against him, Mann questioned, “If the SGPC’s orders are supreme, why were similar boards not placed against Sukhbir Singh Badal? Those who used to agree with him on December 2, why weren’t boards placed against them?”
He also mentioned that he presented himself before the Sri Akal Takht regarding the video controversy. “I cannot challenge the Sri Akal Takht, nor do I have the stature to do so,” he added.
Reiterating his stance, Mann insisted that the viral video can be investigated, asserting, “I was not in that video.” During the press conference, he shared another video claiming that a person had purchased a mask similar to his. This individual is currently in Canada, while Mann stated he has not visited Canada since 2016.
