Tehran, June 15: The United States will lift its naval blockade, leading to an immediate and permanent end to military operations and conflicts across all fronts, including Lebanon. This announcement was made by Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, following a peace agreement with the U.S.
According to the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim, Gharibabadi stated that Iran and the U.S. will sign the final draft of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 19 in Switzerland. Tasnim also reported that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen following the signing ceremony in Switzerland.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state television channel IRIB quoted Gharibabadi as saying, “Iran’s participation in the 60-day negotiation process regarding its nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions will depend on the U.S. fulfilling its initial promises. These commitments will be confirmed by Tehran from now until the signing ceremony.”
Earlier, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on social media platform X that after extensive discussions, the U.S. and Iran have agreed to a peace treaty.
Sharif mentioned that both parties have declared an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon, and mediators will hold several meetings this week to prepare for the implementation of the agreement.
Following this, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that the U.S.-Iran peace agreement is finalized, granting approval to open the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions and to lift the U.S. naval blockade against Iranian ports immediately.
However, the Israeli news site Maariv reported, citing Israeli sources, that during a phone conversation between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump, Netanyahu clarified that Israel does not consider itself bound by any conditions related to Lebanon in the U.S.-Iran agreement.
