Washington, June 7: Shriram Krishnan, one of the most prominent Indian-American technology advisors in the Trump administration, is set to leave his role at the White House. For the past 18 months, he has played a crucial part in shaping the administration’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategy.
In a statement shared on social media, Krishnan announced that he will take a short break before addressing the significant AI challenges facing the United States.
“I will be stepping down from my role at the White House at the end of this month. After a brief rest, I will focus on helping to solve the major AI challenges that America faces,” he wrote.
Krishnan described his service in the government as “the greatest honor of my life” and expressed pride in working under President Donald Trump. He noted that without the President’s leadership, the U.S. would not be leading in the AI race.
He also thanked David Sachs, the White House AI and crypto advisor, stating, “His relentless advocacy has been crucial in keeping America at the forefront of AI and will continue to be.”
Krishnan mentioned that he has played a role in promoting U.S. AI interests internationally, participating in various AI conferences and diplomatic meetings.
“We promoted American AI technology and systems alongside our allied nations. This included participation in AI conferences in France and India, as well as government trips to the UK and the Middle East,” he said.
Looking to the future, Krishnan acknowledged that the rapidly evolving world of AI presents numerous new challenges.
“Over the past 18 months, I have had the opportunity to closely observe the critical phase that the U.S. and its allies are facing regarding AI,” he stated. “Whether it’s about energy, data centers, or ensuring that the benefits of AI reach everyday Americans, we face many tough challenges that must be tackled collaboratively.”
He emphasized that he will now focus on establishing institutions that can assist the U.S. and its allies in addressing these challenges.
In response to Krishnan’s announcement, David Sachs praised his contributions and stated that he will continue to advise the administration even after leaving his position.
“It has been a great honor to work closely with you over the past 18 months,” Sachs wrote. “Your unique capabilities—deep technical understanding of AI, excellent policy knowledge, strategic thinking, and diplomatic skills—are rare to find in one individual.”
