Agartala, June 15: Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Monday that the state’s school dropout rate has significantly decreased. This improvement is attributed to the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector, particularly by promoting girls’ education and ensuring access to quality educational opportunities.
While addressing a bicycle distribution program for ninth-grade students in Agartala, CM Saha emphasized that empowering women is one of the government’s top priorities. Several initiatives have been launched to encourage female students to continue their education and reach their full potential.
He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly stressed that the development and empowerment of women are essential for the progress of the nation and society.
Saha stated, “Women constitute nearly 50 percent of the population, so initiatives have been taken to support their overall development and expand educational opportunities for them. Following the Prime Minister’s vision, the state government is consistently working in this direction.”
In fact, CM Saha also oversees the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He mentioned that this year, approximately 41,800 bicycles are being distributed to students across various schools in the state.
He explained, “The main objective of distributing bicycles is to ensure that students can reach school on time and attend classes regularly. This will also encourage girls to continue their studies with more enthusiasm. This initiative is aimed at further strengthening girls’ education, and similar programs will continue under the school education department in the future.”
The Chief Minister remarked that the dropout rate in Tripura has now significantly decreased, reflecting the positive impact of the government’s educational initiatives. He added that when girls receive a good education, the benefits extend beyond the individual to the entire family, ultimately contributing to the development of society, the state, and the nation.
Saha asserted, “If girls are given opportunities, they can prove their capabilities in every field. This is why the Prime Minister has placed special emphasis on women’s education. Ensuring women’s safety, welfare, and empowerment is crucial for building a progressive society.”
He noted that women representatives in the state’s three-tier panchayat system exceed 50 percent. Similarly, in the Agartala Municipal Corporation and other urban local bodies, nearly half of the elected representatives are women. “Our goal is to further empower women and create more opportunities for their participation in all sectors. Women in the state are now actively involved in various clubs, organizations, and social initiatives,” he said.
The Chief Minister mentioned that several plans and programs have been initiated to promote girls’ education and ensure that students receive quality education in a conducive environment.
CM Saha also urged students to contribute to the vision of “Developed Tripura” and a developed India through education, discipline, and social responsibility. He advised students to remain vigilant about the dangers of substance abuse and emphasized the need for awareness among youth to tackle the growing issue of drug addiction.
He stated, “Alongside their studies, students should be alert and aware of the harmful effects of drugs. Teachers also play a crucial role in this matter. If any changes are observed in students’ behavior, habits, or daily activities, timely intervention and appropriate measures should be taken.”
The program was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumdar, Secretary of School Education Milind Ramteke, senior officials from the education department, and other dignitaries.
