Bhopal, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, participated in a tree planting initiative at Smart City Park in Bhopal. This campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s call, is named “One Tree in the Name of Mother.” Chouhan emphasized that trees are not just about greenery; they are essential for life, biodiversity, and securing our future.
Chouhan stated that a secure environment ensures life on Earth remains safe. He remarked that tree planting is not merely about putting a sapling in the ground; it is a mission to protect humanity, nature, and future generations. He added that if trees are preserved, water, forests, land, and biodiversity will also thrive. This will lead to rainfall, the conservation of rivers, soil preservation, and the continuity of life.
Reflecting on a banyan tree planted in 2021 at Smart City Park, Chouhan shared that he committed to daily tree planting five years ago during his visit to Amarkantak. He recalled that the first sapling he planted upon arriving in Bhopal has now grown into a magnificent banyan tree. Observing the chirping of birds and the activities of wildlife around the tree filled him with immense satisfaction and joy.
Chouhan urged citizens to plant trees, especially on significant life occasions. He suggested linking birthdays, anniversaries, and other family events with tree planting.
He noted that through the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” campaign, millions across the country are planting trees in honor of their mothers. Chouhan mentioned that he also planted a tree in memory of his late mother, Sundar Devi. He stressed that protecting the environment requires action on the ground, not just speeches and discussions. This commitment to daily tree planting, which he made years ago, continues to this day.
