NCRTC Launches Unique Initiative for World Environment Day Celebrations

New Delhi, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) organized various awareness programs and activities at Nammo Bharat trains and stations to promote environmental protection and sustainable development. The initiative aimed to encourage passengers to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles and understand the importance of public transport through engaging and informative activities.

Special announcements were made at Nammo Bharat stations, thanking passengers for choosing Nammo Bharat as an environmentally friendly mode of transport. Quizzes related to environmental conservation, clean energy, and sustainable development were held on trains and at stations, attracting enthusiastic participation from travelers of all ages, including children, youth, and seniors.

Participants received special ‘seed-embedded cards’ as incentives. These cards, made from recycled paper, can be planted in soil to grow plants. This initiative reinforces the message that small efforts can significantly contribute to environmental protection. Travelers praised this innovative approach, calling it a unique example of environmental responsibility. Attractive photo booths were also set up at various Nammo Bharat stations, allowing passengers to take pictures with messages promoting environmental conservation.

The active participation of youth and children transformed the entire event into a celebration. These activities positioned Nammo Bharat stations not just as travel hubs but also as platforms for awareness and community engagement. Additionally, NCRTC, in collaboration with its operation and maintenance partner DB RRTS India and Aharada Education College in Meerut, launched a three-day program at Begampul Nammo Bharat station on the theme ‘Sustainable Textiles, Sustainable Future.’

The aim of this initiative is to raise awareness about eco-friendly fashion and sustainable textiles. The program features creative exhibitions by students focused on recycling, environmental conservation, and green lifestyles. Special sessions on sustainable fashion, DIY activities, and interactive programs are also being conducted, drawing significant interest from travelers.

NCRTC emphasizes that the Nammo Bharat project is not just a modern transport service but a crucial step towards reducing traffic congestion, vehicle pollution, and carbon emissions in the region. Currently, over 100,000 passengers use the Nammo Bharat service daily, alleviating pressure on roads and benefiting the environment.

Prioritizing environmental protection, NCRTC has installed solar power plants at stations and depots, developed rainwater harvesting systems, and promoted the use of clean energy sources. Through these efforts, NCRTC is continuously working to advance the goals of green and sustainable development across the NCR region.
