
Kabul, April 5: A tragic road accident occurred on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in the Wardak province of eastern Afghanistan, resulting in one fatality and five serious injuries. This incident was reported by the government-run Bakhtar News Agency on Sunday.
The collision took place on Saturday evening in the Sayyid Abad district. According to Xinhua News Agency, the injured were promptly transported to a nearby medical center for treatment.
This incident has once again highlighted the challenges of road safety on Afghanistan’s vital transportation corridors.
On April 3, a passenger bus in the Ghazni province of eastern Afghanistan was involved in a similar accident, leading to the deaths of two individuals and injuring 13 others.
Provincial police spokesperson Khalid Sarhadi stated that this deadly accident occurred on Friday morning on the main road in the Qarabagh district. One child is reported missing and is currently being searched for.
The cause of this accident has also been attributed to driver negligence. Sarhadi confirmed that an investigation is underway.
On March 28, another incident in the Laghman province of eastern Afghanistan involved a minibus colliding with two motorcyclists, resulting in one passenger’s death and injuring 10 others.
The provincial police office released a statement indicating that on March 28, a minibus struck two vehicles in quick succession in the provincial capital, Mehtarlam. The collision involved a three-wheeled rickshaw and a motorcycle, leading to one immediate fatality and injuring 10 individuals, including five children and two women.
Recently, the Taliban police released statistics showing that in the previous year (2025), 136 people lost their lives in road accidents in the northeastern Badakhshan province. Notably, this figure comes from one of the country’s most remote areas.
Provincial police command spokesperson Ehsanullah Kamgar reported that during that period, 122 accidents were recorded, resulting in 175 injuries.
