Islamabad High Court Allows Imran Khan to Meet His Lawyer Amid Corruption Case

New Delhi, April 7: In a significant development regarding the alleged £190 million corruption case in Pakistan, the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed relevant authorities to facilitate a meeting between Imran Khan and his lawyer.

This directive was issued during a hearing on the petitions filed by Imran and his wife, Bushra Bibi, seeking the suspension of their sentences. The bench also indicated a prompt resolution of their main appeals.

Special prosecutor Javed Ashraf and senior prosecutor Rafi Maqsood represented the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in court, while Barrister Salman Safdar appeared on behalf of the PTI founder.

During the proceedings, the Chief Justice inquired about the status of the main appeals, noting that separate petitions requesting the suspension of sentences were also pending.

According to a report by the prominent daily Dawn, the court clarified that the accused has the right to meet with their legal representative, and no obstacles should be placed in this regard. The Chief Justice instructed officials to take necessary steps to ensure that Imran Khan can meet with his lawyer without hindrance.

Tuesday and Thursday have been designated by the court for these meetings, allowing Imran’s family, lawyer, and party leaders to visit him. The former Prime Minister is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

The IHC bench also suggested a streamlined approach for expedited proceedings, with the Chief Justice stating that if the debate on the appeal begins, the court could reach a decision within seven days.

Meanwhile, relevant authorities have been ordered to comply with the court’s directive immediately. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 9.

This case involves serious allegations of embezzlement and financial irregularities amounting to £190 million against Imran Khan and his associates. During the hearing, the defense requested the court to allow Imran to consult with his lawyer to prepare an effective defense.
