Tehran, April 7: Iran has sent a letter to UNESCO, urging the organization to condemn Israeli threats aimed at its railway system. The Minister of Cultural Heritage, Reza Salihi Amiri, addressed this official letter to the Director-General of UNESCO. The Trans-Iranian Railway, stretching 1,394 kilometers, was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2021.
According to ISNA news agency, Minister Amiri’s letter requests the UN agency to denounce the Israeli threats against Iran’s railway system and to take immediate action to prevent such attacks.
UNESCO’s website states that the Trans-Iranian Railway connects the Caspian Sea in the northeast to the Persian Gulf in the southwest. It was acknowledged as a World Heritage Site for its impressive engineering, overcoming significant challenges such as steep gradients and difficult terrains.
ISNA reported that the minister described the threats as an assault on humanity’s shared heritage and called for UNESCO to adopt a clear stance against Israeli military actions.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a new video claiming to have conducted airstrikes on Iran’s air defense systems. The military stated that over 130 Iranian air defense systems have been destroyed to date.
U.S. President Trump claimed in a press conference on Monday that Iran could be “eliminated in a single night.” He warned that if Iran does not reach an agreement with the U.S. by the deadline he set for Tuesday night at 8 PM Washington time (5:30 AM Wednesday in India), action could be taken at any moment.
