Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Concludes Official Visit to New Delhi, Meeting with Gandhi Family Postponed

Chennai, May 29: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has returned to Chennai after completing his first official visit to New Delhi. This marks his inaugural trip to the capital since taking office.

During his two-day visit, Vijay met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. However, his anticipated meetings with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi did not take place, sparking speculation in political circles.

Congress sources clarified that the meeting with Rahul Gandhi was not canceled but merely postponed. According to TVK sources, Vijay’s trip was primarily focused on administrative and developmental issues rather than political consultations.

Reports indicate that Vijay expressed a desire to meet Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday night, and efforts were made for a meeting on Thursday morning. Unfortunately, due to the Chief Minister’s busy schedule and a pre-planned return to Chennai, the meeting could not occur.

A senior Congress leader hinted that Vijay might return to Delhi around June 11 to attend a NITI Aayog meeting, where a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi could potentially take place.

During his visit, Chief Minister Vijay discussed several critical issues concerning Tamil Nadu with Prime Minister Modi. These included the Mekedatu dam project in Karnataka, the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, and the controversy surrounding the presentation of ‘Tamil Thai Vaazhthu’ at the new government’s swearing-in ceremony.

According to an official statement, Vijay expressed serious concerns to the Prime Minister regarding Karnataka’s proposed Mekedatu balancing reservoir project on the Cauvery River. He stated that this project contradicts the final decision of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the Supreme Court’s directives on water sharing.

The Chief Minister also submitted a detailed memorandum to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, requesting financial assistance for infrastructure projects in Tamil Nadu, including ports, national highways, railway expansions, and industrial corridors, which are deemed vital for the state’s economic progress.
