Chennai, July 11: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay expressed profound sorrow on Saturday over the tragic boat accident involving Indian tourists off the coast of Vietnam, which resulted in the loss of several lives, including residents from Tamil Nadu.
He announced that the state government is collaborating with the central government and Indian diplomatic officials to expedite assistance for the affected families and facilitate the repatriation of the victims’ bodies.
In a statement, the Chief Minister conveyed his grief upon learning about the incident involving a tourist boat heading to ‘Hon Me Rut Ngoi’ island in Vietnam’s ‘An Thoi’ maritime area. Reports indicate that tourists from Tamil Nadu and other Indian states were among those who perished, with many others sustaining injuries.
Describing the incident as heart-wrenching, Vijay extended his condolences to the bereaved families and assured them that the Tamil Nadu government would provide all possible support during this challenging time.
He instructed senior state officials to promptly gather information regarding all Tamil Nadu residents involved in the accident.
Vijay emphasized the need for officials to monitor the situation closely and ensure timely relief and rescue operations in coordination with senior officials at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Indian Embassy in Vietnam.
He also directed officials to maintain continuous communication with Indian diplomatic representatives in Vietnam to ensure that injured passengers receive timely medical care and necessary assistance. The state government will coordinate with the embassy until every affected resident from Tamil Nadu receives appropriate help.
Furthermore, Vijay instructed officials to initiate the necessary procedures through the Indian Embassy to repatriate the bodies of those who lost their lives in the accident as swiftly as possible.
He reiterated that the Tamil Nadu government stands firmly with the affected families and will collaborate with the Indian government to provide all possible assistance.
Expressing his heartfelt condolences, he mourned the loss of lives in this tragic event and wished for the swift recovery of those injured.
