
New Delhi, July 11: A tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam has claimed the lives of two Indian tourists from Kerala. So far, 15 fatalities have been reported, with several others hospitalized. Kerala’s Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan expressed his condolences regarding the incident.
In a post on social media, V.D. Satheesan confirmed that the Indian Embassy in Vietnam officially identified the deceased as A.C. Thomas (57) and Loveny Thomas (56) from Kottarakkara. The state government is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs to expedite the repatriation process. “Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the grieving families,” he stated.
Earlier, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a profoundly painful event. He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his grief over the situation. He noted that the Indian Embassy and Consulate are working closely with Vietnamese authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected.
On social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic news of the boat accident involving Indian citizens near Phu Quoc, Vietnam. My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”
He further added, “Our embassy and consulate are providing every possible support. Our officials are in continuous contact with the Vietnamese administration.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described the incident as extremely tragic. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged the Ministry of External Affairs to maintain ongoing coordination with Vietnamese officials and closely monitor the rescue operations. He also called for all possible assistance to be provided to the affected Indian families.
