Tragic Fire in Kolkata Hotel Claims Nine Lives, Five Identified as Bangladeshi Nationals

Kolkata, August 19: A devastating fire at the Shikha Inn hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street in Kolkata early Wednesday morning has resulted in the tragic deaths of nine individuals. The Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata has confirmed that five of the deceased are Bangladeshi nationals.

According to the Deputy High Commission, four of the Bangladeshi victims were from the Kushtia district and belonged to the same family, while another was a resident of the Amin Bazaar area in Dhaka. Additionally, one of the deceased has been identified as an Indian citizen. The identities of three other victims remain unknown, and local authorities are actively working to establish their identities.

Upon receiving the news, officials from the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission arrived at the scene and the hospital. They gathered information about the deceased and took necessary steps to ensure the treatment of the injured.

The High Commission stated that if any of the unidentified victims are confirmed to be Bangladeshi nationals, arrangements will be made to repatriate their bodies to Bangladesh.

According to police and hospital administration reports, six individuals injured in the incident have been treated and discharged from the hospital.

Officials from the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission are in constant contact with the hospital and local police, providing assistance to the affected families. In light of the tragedy, the Deputy High Commission has also launched a 24-hour helpline service to support the families of the deceased, the injured, and others impacted by the incident.
