Jaipur, August 15: The tragic death of a 12th-grade student named Prince at Maharana Pratap Senior Secondary School in Jhotwara has led to protests by family members and fellow students outside the school. The family alleges negligence on the part of the school administration, claiming they failed to provide timely information and adequate medical assistance.
Prince’s father, Amit Sonu, recounted that his son left for school in good spirits. Around 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, the school called, informing him that his son was unwell and urging him to come immediately, suggesting he use a car if possible. When he inquired about the situation, no details were provided.
Amit stated, “By the time I arrived, at least 40 to 45 minutes had passed. You must have seen the video of what happened. His body was cold, and he had stopped breathing.”
Prince’s mother shared her experience upon arriving at the school. She was allowed inside by a security guard and went directly to the office. There, a teacher informed her that Prince was present. According to her, a curtain separated the office door, and several teachers were gathered near a sofa. The room was hot, with curtains drawn over the windows.
In tears, she recounted, “I asked where my Prince was. The teacher asked if I was his mother. When the teacher stepped aside, I saw Prince’s feet on the sofa. As I approached, I noticed his body had turned blue, his hands were cold, and his eyes were also blue. I rushed to him and tried to lift him, but he wouldn’t respond.”
Following this, the family took Prince to the hospital, where doctors indicated that he might have survived if he had received prompt medical attention.
A classmate revealed that Prince had eaten a patty from the school canteen during lunch. He had consumed it quickly on an empty stomach, causing it to get lodged in his throat. Despite drinking water, he could not dislodge the patty.
Upon learning of the incident, family members and students gathered outside the school, demanding action from the administration.
BJP legislator Bal Mukund Acharya commented, “This is a very tragic incident. I assure the Soni family that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the true cause of death. The government and administration, under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, stand with the family during this difficult time.”
He further noted that while the school administration claimed all students had eaten the same patty, no other students fell ill, making it essential to ascertain the exact cause of death. A complete medical examination and autopsy report will clarify the situation.
Currently, the police have sent the body for an autopsy and have initiated an investigation. The family is demanding strict action against the school administration and the canteen operator for negligence. The school administration has yet to release an official statement. The police stated that further action will be based on the autopsy report and witness statements.
