Guwahati, August 14: The death toll from flood-related incidents in Assam has risen to 104. Thousands remain affected across seven districts in the state.
According to the Assam Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS), the districts of Nagaon, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Kamrup, Hojai, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur are currently impacted. A total of 313 villages across 20 revenue circles have been affected, with 78,637 individuals—including men, women, and children—displaced due to the floods.
Officials report that relief and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas, with 68 relief camps established across the districts. Currently, 5,057 people are residing in these camps, which include 761 children, 58 pregnant or breastfeeding women, and four individuals with disabilities.
Nagaon has the highest number of affected individuals at 26,292, followed by Golaghat with 30,778, Sivasagar with 12,480, and Jorhat with 9,087. Recent government assessments indicate that approximately 8,268.71 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged.
In the latest assessment, one death has been confirmed in Sivasagar due to the floods, with no reports of missing persons. Rescue efforts have been intensified, and agencies have deployed boats in the affected areas. Reports indicate that 117 individuals have been safely evacuated via boat, while rescue teams and medical personnel are active in the flood-hit districts.
The floodwaters have also damaged infrastructure, including roads and bridges. The latest report mentions that 32 roads and one bridge have been damaged, with several areas in Sivasagar and Nagaon also affected.
Officials have instructed the district administration to continue relief efforts and closely monitor the situation, as water levels and weather conditions are continuously assessed.
