Ludhiana, August 14: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone for a ₹65 crore Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant in Hebowal, Ludhiana, on Friday.
This project aims to scientifically process 300 tons of animal waste generated daily at the dairy complex, addressing the issues of sewer blockages and pollution in Budha Nala.
Spanning 2.5 acres, the plant is expected to be operational by September 2027, creating new income opportunities for 435 dairy owners under the ‘Waste-to-Wealth’ mission. Additionally, it will produce approximately five tons of CBG and organic bio-fertilizer daily.
Speaking to the public after the foundation laying, CM Mann described the day as historic, emphasizing the significance of the CBG plant. He expressed gratitude to the officials of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for their crucial role in completing the project. This initiative is set to be a landmark under the Budha River Rejuvenation Program, with an estimated cost of ₹65 crore and a projected completion date in September 2027.
Highlighting the government’s role, CM Mann stated that the government has allocated 2.5 acres of land for this project. The scientific processing of the 300 tons of waste generated daily at the Hebowal dairy complex will prevent untreated waste from entering Budha Nala, thereby reducing water pollution and improving the environment. This will also enhance cleanliness in and around the dairy complex.
Emphasizing the economic benefits of the project, he noted that around 435 dairy owners in the area will directly benefit, marking a significant step towards the ‘Waste-to-Wealth’ concept. The scientific utilization of waste will create new income avenues for dairy farmers. The plant will produce organic bio-fertilizer, reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers, enhancing soil fertility, and promoting organic farming. It will generate approximately five tons of compressed biogas daily, creating new direct and indirect employment opportunities for youth.
