Tragic Accident on Mussoorie-Dehradun Route Claims Truck Drivers Life

Mumbai, May 28: A tragic road accident occurred on the Mussoorie-Dehradun route on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of a water tanker driver. The incident took place near Gajji Band when the fully loaded tanker lost control and plunged approximately 50 meters into a gorge. Panic ensued in the area, prompting local residents to immediately notify the police.

After considerable effort, the injured driver was retrieved from the gorge and transported to the Civil Hospital in Mussoorie, where he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as Akshay Aswal, son of Prem Singh Aswal, a resident of Dudhayi village in the Sahaspur block of Dehradun district, aged around 25 years.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the vehicle lost control; however, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the region.

Mussoorie police chief Devendra Chauhan reported that around 6 AM, tanker number UA07-L-4065 was en route to Mussoorie after filling water from Mussoorie Lake. Suddenly, the driver lost control of the vehicle near Gajji Band, leading to the tragic fall. Upon receiving the news, Mussoorie police arrived at the scene with disaster relief equipment and initiated a rescue operation with the help of local residents.

He noted that the tanker was completely filled with water at the time of the accident. The owner of the tanker, Saheb Singh Thapli, also arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The police have informed the deceased’s family about the incident, and necessary legal actions are underway.

Dr. Prashant from the Mussoorie Sub-District Hospital stated that the driver was brought in dead. He mentioned that there were severe injuries on the deceased’s body, and the exact cause of death will be clarified after the post-mortem report is available.

Local residents have expressed concerns regarding safety measures on the Mussoorie-Dehradun route. They pointed out that sharp turns, narrow roads, and a lack of safety measures contribute to the risk of accidents. The community has urged the administration to install crash barriers along the roadside and increase warning signs to prevent such incidents in the future.
