Former TMC MLA Appears Before CBI in RG Kar Case

Kolkata, June 18: Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Nirmal Ghosh appeared at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office on Thursday in connection with the RG Kar rape and murder case.

The CBI has renewed its investigation into the case following the tragic incident involving a junior female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024. On Wednesday, officials visited the crematorium in Panihati where the victim was cremated. This time, investigators summoned the former MLA for questioning.

Notably, the victim’s mother is now a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and recently won a state assembly election. She has consistently raised questions about the investigation, alleging evidence tampering, negligence, and attempts to conceal the incident.

The family claims that a second autopsy of the victim’s body was not permitted, and the body was hastily cremated without any documentation.

In light of these allegations, the victim’s family has demanded the arrest of three individuals, including the then-MLA Nirmal Ghosh. Last month, the victim’s parents approached the Sialdah Court regarding the matter.

Recently, central authorities have intensified their investigation into the RG Kar case. On Wednesday, a CBI team visited the Panihati crematorium to ascertain what transpired after the deceased doctor was brought there and how her body was cremated.

In this context, the former MLA’s son, Tirthankar Ghosh, stated that the CBI had summoned both him and his father for questioning. He emphasized their willingness to cooperate with the investigation, which is why his father attended the CBI office.
