Mumbai, June 18: Iranian President Masoud Pagehshkian shared a historic document regarding the interim agreement between the U.S. and Iran on the social media platform X. He described this document as a powerful message from Iran.
In his post, he stated, “This is a historic document and a message from a powerful Iran: Peace can only be achieved under the shadow of mutual respect. The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been committed to global peace and will continue to uphold its dignity, freedom, progress, and regional cooperation.”
Alongside his statement, he posted a two-page Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlines the points forming the basis of peace between the two nations. Former President Donald Trump signed the MOU on Wednesday night at the Palace of Versailles in France, with President Emmanuel Macron also present.
After signing the deal, Trump emerged from the Palace of Versailles. When a journalist mentioned the peace agreement, he loudly declared, “The deal is signed.” Following this, Iranian President Masoud Pagehshkian also signed the document, which took immediate effect.
The agreement includes provisions for lifting the blockade from Hormuz, curbing military actions (with a mention of Lebanon), respecting sovereignty, and removing sanctions imposed on Iran by the United Nations and other organizations.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei stated that the signed memorandum with the U.S. ensures the respect for Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In an interview with Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese news outlet Al Akhbar, Baghaei remarked, “If Israeli entities continue to attack Lebanon, it will be considered a violation of the promises made in the agreement.” He accused Israel of not allowing any diplomatic avenues for peace in the region.
Baghaei emphasized that it is the responsibility of the U.S. to ensure that the relevant parties adhere to the promises made in the agreement. He noted that discussions between the U.S. and Iran under this MOU will focus solely on nuclear issues and the lifting of sanctions.
According to Baghaei, “Negotiations on the nuclear program and sanctions will take place within 60 days, and this can be extended if necessary.” He reiterated Iran’s clear stance: “We have never sought to acquire nuclear weapons, nor do we wish to achieve this through building or purchasing them.”
