Israeli Defense Forces Reaffirm Commitment to Lebanon Despite US-Iran Peace Deal

Tel Aviv, June 18: The recent US-Iran deal mentions Lebanon, with President Pajeski announcing on social media that military actions will cease on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have made it clear that they will not withdraw from Lebanon.

The IDF has released an updated map of its deployment in southern Lebanon, stating that troops will remain in the area. This map illustrates their established security zone in southern Lebanon.

According to the IDF, their security deployment extends approximately 10 kilometers into Lebanon from the border, spanning from east to west. The military stated that its personnel will continue to operate in designated areas to eliminate potential threats to the residents of northern Israel.

The new map indicates that the Israeli army has advanced further into Lebanon compared to the ‘Forward Defense Line’ announced in April, including areas around Nabatiyeh.

The IDF also mentioned that it will maintain control of this region under “operational needs” to protect soldiers and communities along the northern border from any threats.

Additionally, the army has urged the Lebanese military to coordinate its activities near this security zone and to refrain from entering the area without coordination, as military operations are still ongoing there.

It is noteworthy that the first point in the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Trump at the Palace of Versailles mentions Lebanon. It states that both countries and their allies will immediately cease hostilities and refrain from military actions against each other, thus ending the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon.
