Hyderabad, June 18: The Telangana government has decided to make its state cabinet meetings completely paperless. This significant decision was made during a special cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, the implementation of the Telangana Digital Cabinet system has been approved.
Information Technology Minister D. Sridhar Babu distributed special tablets to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and all ministers. The Chief Minister personally oversaw the operation of the digital cabinet system.
Under the new arrangement, cabinet meetings will now be entirely paperless, promoting efficiency, transparency, and environmental conservation. The agenda and other essential documents for cabinet meetings will now be provided to ministers via these tablets.
Notably, chief secretaries and other officials were not invited to Thursday’s meeting. It is believed that the Chief Minister and ministers discussed various issues related to the implementation of welfare schemes.
Telangana’s cabinet is adopting the paperless system nearly two years after neighboring Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh government implemented the e-Cabinet system on August 28, 2024, making its cabinet meetings fully digital.
In Andhra Pradesh, ministers were provided iPads equipped with the e-Cabinet application developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in New Delhi.
During the tenure of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government from 2014 to 2019, Andhra Pradesh’s cabinet meetings were also paperless. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu initiated e-Cabinet meetings shortly after taking office, about 100 days post the state’s bifurcation in 2014.
However, the subsequent YSR Congress Party government discontinued this e-meeting system. This time, a comprehensive e-Cabinet application has been developed with several new features and a fully digital workflow.
Officials state that the paperless system is not only environmentally friendly but also enhances administrative efficiency. Through the e-Cabinet application, ministers will have online access to necessary documents and related information anytime and anywhere.
