Barrackpore, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : BJP MLA Sumitro Chatterjee addressed several pressing issues in Barrackpore, including the ongoing discussions surrounding the Trinamool Congress (TMC) election symbol, the CID custody of Sumit Roy, an associate of Abhishek Banerjee, and the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to India during the BRICS summit.
Chatterjee stated that the final decision regarding the TMC’s election symbol rests with the Election Commission. He emphasized that the BJP cannot make any predictions on this matter, as it falls under the jurisdiction of the Commission.
In response to a statement by Dilip Ghosh questioning the future of the TMC and its election symbol, Chatterjee pointed out that internal conflicts within the TMC are evident, with party members reportedly at odds with one another. He suggested that the TMC should focus on resolving these disputes.
When questioned about the by-election results, Chatterjee expressed confidence in the BJP’s impending victory, asserting that the situation will become clearer once the results are announced. He remarked that if TMC members are fighting among themselves, it is a matter they should handle.
On the topic of Sumit Roy’s arrest and his subsequent eight-day CID custody, Chatterjee noted that the investigation agency has detained him for questioning to uncover facts related to the case. He indicated that the truth about the matter may emerge during this inquiry.
Discussing Xi Jinping’s visit to India amidst ongoing tensions in India-China relations, Chatterjee remarked that China recognizes India’s growing economic strength. He highlighted India’s strengthened economy and the increasing significance of its market.
Chatterjee pointed out that China faces its own economic challenges, making it beneficial for them to improve relations with India. This necessity is likely why President Xi is visiting—to explore opportunities for enhancing bilateral ties.
While acknowledging the existing differences between India and China, Chatterjee maintained that the potential for dialogue and improved relations should not be overlooked. He noted that meetings between the top leadership of both countries at multilateral platforms like BRICS could provide an opportunity to advance bilateral relations.
