New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Congress leader Harish Rawat has labeled the recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on his ex-personal assistant‘s residence as an electoral conspiracy. He criticized the timing of the operation, suggesting that reviving a decade-old case just before elections exemplifies the misuse of government agencies working in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Rawat stated that such actions create a charged atmosphere before elections. He emphasized that the misuse of agencies like the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has become a common practice. “Many colleagues speculated that elections would occur in November. I argued that until the CBI shows up with notices, it seems likely elections will be in March or April. Now that the ED has raided my former OSD’s home, this has become their routine,” he remarked. He likened these agencies to a reconnaissance unit for the BJP’s electoral prospects.
Pointing to the alleged conspiracy, Rawat noted that the raid targeted his former aide’s residence, not his own. He expressed disbelief that authorities remembered the case after more than ten years. “If a crime was committed, why did the government remain silent for so long? This scheme appears to be politically motivated, timed for the elections,” he added.
Reflecting on his tenure, Rawat shared that when he took office, around 50,000 government positions were vacant, leaving many youth struggling for jobs. During his three years in office, he facilitated two public service commission exams and prepared for a third before the government changed.
He highlighted significant shortages in schools and hospitals, leading to a halt in operations due to a lack of teachers, doctors, and staff in technical institutions. In response, his administration established a subordinate service selection commission and recruitment boards for medical and educational positions to address these issues.
