Bengaluru, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : R. Ashok, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly and a senior BJP leader, accused the Congress government of grappling with internal power struggles. His remarks came after Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi’s recent statement, which he claimed exposed the ongoing tensions within the ruling party.
Jarkiholi mentioned that he was trying to ascertain whether the individual who filed a complaint against him with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was a party member or an outsider. Ashok responded, saying this statement revealed the internal conflict plaguing Karnataka’s Congress.
He stated, “The long-standing power struggle and fight for positions within Congress have once again come to the forefront.” Ashok also referenced Jarkiholi’s claim that efforts were underway to identify those filing complaints against him, suggesting attempts to politically undermine him.
The BJP leader alleged that Congress members have stooped so low as to file complaints against their own colleagues with investigative agencies to weaken them. He further accused the Congress government of corruption, claiming that public funds are being misused for investments abroad while the administration focuses on internal politics instead of addressing public issues.
Ashok asserted, “On one hand, there are accusations of embezzlement of taxpayer money for foreign investments, and on the other, there are schemes to sideline party colleagues and maintain power.” He directed his comments towards Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, stating that grand promises of development have been overshadowed by ministerial conflicts and allegations of corruption.
He questioned the moral standing of a government when its own members are reporting alleged corruption among their ministers to investigative agencies. Ashok suggested that the Congress government prioritizes maintaining power and controlling resources over public welfare.
He warned that the people of Karnataka would hold the Congress government accountable for its corruption and internal strife. The controversy intensified when Jarkiholi revealed he had informed Chief Minister Shivakumar about the individual who allegedly filed the complaint against him. Jarkiholi noted that the complainant could either be an outsider or a Congress member, leaving it to the Chief Minister to address the matter.
The ED has conducted raids on properties linked to Jarkiholi, his family, and associates as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities, foreign investments, and other regulatory violations. However, Jarkiholi has denied all allegations, stating that he would respond appropriately if the ED issues any notice.
