New Delhi, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Saturday that China and India are not rivals, but rather partners. He made this assertion during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. Xi emphasized that both nations pose opportunities for each other’s development rather than threats.
According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi and Modi have met twice over the past two years. These discussions have played a crucial role in revitalizing and strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
The statement noted that institutional-level dialogues between India and China have gradually resumed. Cooperation between the two nations is expanding, with bilateral trade reaching new record levels.
The ministry highlighted that while India and China face different circumstances, both can learn from each other’s strengths and collaborate for mutual success. In the context of the complex and rapidly changing global environment, the two most populous nations carry significant responsibilities as key members of the Global South.
Xi urged both countries to prioritize the future of humanity and the well-being of their peoples. He called for enhanced BRICS cooperation and a positive contribution to global peace, stability, development, and prosperity.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry outlined four key suggestions from President Xi for the long-term and stable development of China-India relations.
First, both nations should advance with an objective and balanced strategic understanding. Xi reiterated that India and China are partners, not competitors, and that they should view each other as opportunities for growth.
Second, he encouraged achieving shared success through cooperation and partnership, emphasizing the need for friendly relations and mutually beneficial collaboration based on shared development goals.
Third, Xi stressed the importance of mutual respect and understanding in overcoming obstacles. He suggested that bilateral relations and border-related issues should be addressed simultaneously while maintaining peace and stability in border areas.
Lastly, Xi advocated for promoting multilateral cooperation. He urged India and China to support each other during their BRICS presidency and enhance collaboration on platforms such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the G20.
He concluded by stating that both nations should work together to tackle global challenges and firmly uphold fairness and justice on the international stage.
