Abhishek Banerjee Requests Time to Respond to KMC Notice on Illegal Constructions

Kolkata, May 24: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has issued notices to Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, regarding illegal constructions. According to sources, Banerjee has written to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation requesting additional time to respond to the notice concerning these constructions.

The KMC officials have initiated an investigation against several properties allegedly owned or co-owned by Abhishek Banerjee. Notices have been issued for 17 properties under Section 400(1) of the Act of 1980.

Copies of these notices have been affixed to the walls of the properties in question. Among them are two residences of the Diamond Harbour MP, located at 188A Harish Mukherjee Road and 121 Kalighat Road, both of which are under KMC scrutiny.

In the case of the property on Harish Mukherjee Road, a corporate entity named ‘Leaps and Bounds Private Limited’ has received a notice, which is reportedly owned by the Banerjee family. For the property on Kalighat Road, the notice has been issued to Abhishek Banerjee’s mother, Lata Banerjee. Both properties are situated in Kolkata and are in close proximity to the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

During Mamata Banerjee’s tenure, opposition parties such as CPI(M), Congress, and BJP vocally criticized the registration of numerous properties under various members of the Banerjee family. However, Mamata Banerjee dismissed these allegations as mere attempts by opposition parties to defame her family.

In response to the notice sent to Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee convened a meeting of TMC councilors in Kolkata. However, only a small number of the 136 councilors attended the meeting.
