New Delhi, May 27: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from all party organizational positions effective immediately. This move has intensified political tensions in West Bengal, especially following BJP MP Soumitra Khan’s claim that several TMC MPs and MLAs are in contact with the BJP. TMC MP Sougata Roy dismissed Ghosh Dastidar’s resignation as a “media stunt.”
In a conversation with the media, Sougata Roy expressed relief over her resignation, stating that this is not her first resignation. He suggested that if she continues to resign regularly, it will keep her in the media spotlight, but should not be taken seriously.
When asked about Ghosh Dastidar not resigning as an MP, Roy mentioned that decisions are being made step by step. He noted that the TMC lost the elections and only those with moral authority will remain in the party.
Regarding the speculation of Ghosh Dastidar joining the BJP, Roy stated that everyone is free to make their own decisions.
On the participation of TMC MPs and MLAs in a government administrative meeting, Roy clarified that there was no restriction from their party. The Chief Minister had invited them, so it holds no political significance.
Responding to Soumitra Khan’s statements, Roy remarked that Khan’s comments lack importance and are merely rumors. The TMC has no such information.
On the other hand, BJP MP Soumitra Khan indicated that many MPs and MLAs are ready to join the BJP whenever directed by the party’s central leadership, including Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar. He emphasized that the party’s decisions are final. Khan acknowledged that several MPs and MLAs are in contact with them, fostering friendly relations.
BJP MP Rahul Sinha claimed that apart from Mamata Banerjee, no one will remain in the TMC. He suggested that either Abhishek Banerjee will flee abroad or face imprisonment, leading to the complete downfall of the TMC.
Sinha cited the example of the Falta assembly, where a 15-year veteran TMC leader finished fourth and lost his deposit, while Abhishek Banerjee won by a margin of 700,000 votes in the same area. He asserted that the TMC is on the brink of collapse.
He urged Mamata Banerjee to remove the TMC signboard herself, warning that the humiliation awaiting the party in the future will be hard to bear.
Regarding the resignations of TMC leaders, Sinha noted that if the government has fallen, there is little reason to remain in the party. He suggested that they are leaving because they can no longer engage in corruption.
Sinha clarified that the BJP does not wish to interfere in TMC’s internal conflicts and will focus entirely on the development of Bengal.
Central Minister Sukanta Majumdar recalled that when he was the BJP state president, he and the then Leader of the Opposition, now Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, promised that upon coming to power, they would replace the ‘Lakshmi Bhandar‘ scheme with the ‘Annapurna Bhandar’ scheme, which would increase financial assistance.
He assured that the BJP will fulfill its promises made in the manifesto.
On the Supreme Court‘s decision regarding SIR, Majumdar stated that he has not yet read the full ruling but has learned through news that the Supreme Court deemed SIR legal. He reiterated that they have always maintained that SIR is completely legal and has been implemented multiple times before, so there is nothing new about it.
