Radhakrishnan further expressed, “I convey my sympathy and solidarity with the people of Venezuela on behalf of the people of India.”

The powerful earthquakes struck with little time between them, causing a significant tremor in the capital, Caracas. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sorrow over the devastation caused by the earthquakes and assured support from India during this difficult time.

In a post on X, Modi said, “I am deeply saddened by the destruction caused by the severe earthquakes in Venezuela. On behalf of the people of India, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Venezuelan government and its people, especially to those families who have lost their loved ones.”

The Prime Minister also stated, “India is ready to provide all possible assistance.”

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude 7.1 earthquake early in the morning, followed by another quake of magnitude 7.5 just one minute later. Both earthquakes occurred near the coastal city of Morón, approximately 160 kilometers west of Caracas.

The depth of the earthquakes was recorded at 10 kilometers.

In the wake of the two powerful earthquakes that caused widespread damage, Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez declared a state of emergency.

Rodríguez posted on X, stating, “In light of the severe earthquakes that have struck the country, we have declared a state of emergency nationwide. We urge all citizens to remain vigilant, safe, and as calm as possible.”

She also announced the closure of the Maquetía airport due to the damage caused by the earthquakes, assuring that security agencies, medical services, and civil protection teams have been deployed across the country for rescue and relief efforts.
