UAEs Anwar Gargash Rejects Imposition of New Geopolitical Realities Amid Aggression

Abu Dhabi, June 25: Anwar Mohammed Gargash, a senior leader and advisor to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has stated that no new “geopolitical facts” can be imposed on Arab-Gulf nations due to what he termed “treacherous aggression” against them.

He emphasized that forcing acceptance of any situation based on aggression does not establish stability in the region; instead, it creates new grounds for future disputes and conflicts.

In a post on the social media platform X, Gargash wrote, “Imposing any status quo born from aggression does not bring stability but sows the seeds of future strife and conflict.”

He noted that this principle also applies to the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global energy supply and regional security.

While it was not clear who he was targeting, his mention of Hormuz may be a response to recent warnings from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

In reaction to new maritime routes established by Oman and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the IRGC issued a stern statement on Thursday through Iran’s official news agency IRNA. The Revolutionary Guard stated, “Some officials, without any notice or coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran, have declared a new route for ship movements in the Strait of Hormuz, which is unacceptable and entirely dangerous.”

They warned, “Everyone is informed that the only authorized route for passing through Hormuz is the one declared by the Islamic Republic of Iran. Movement of ships outside these routes is extremely dangerous and restricted.”

The Revolutionary Guard further added, “Violators will be dealt with,” although it did not specify what actions would be taken.

Meanwhile, there were no immediate reports of incidents involving vessels passing through the Hormuz Strait during the exit of the Stoic Warrior. Tracking information indicated that several other ships were following closely behind.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently on a Gulf tour. During his three-day visit to Gulf nations, he met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday.

Discussions during this meeting included the U.S.-Iran diplomatic agreement, safe passage in Hormuz, and regional security issues. Rubio’s spokesperson, Tommy Pigott, later reported that both leaders discussed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the U.S. and Iran. Rubio reiterated America’s commitment to UAE security and assured continuous U.S. support amid changes in regional security arrangements.

Gargash also shared information about this meeting on X, stating that the country has faced complex challenges and has overcome them with determination, effective strategy, and capability. He highlighted that the UAE continues to play a significant role in laying the foundation for a new era of stability and development in the region, which the area and its people expect.
