
Ranchi, June 20: In a significant development, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Panchayat head Anupam Bhagat in the Podaiyahaat police station area of Godda district, Jharkhand. The incident occurred on June 18.
The arrested suspects include notorious criminals Ankit Yadav, Nayan Yadav, and Amar Kant Giri, also known as Karu. Following a written complaint from Anupam Kumar, a case was registered against Ankit Yadav and the other two under relevant sections at the Podaiyahaat police station.
Given the seriousness of the situation, Mukesh Kumar, the Superintendent of Police in Godda, established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters).
The SIT conducted swift investigations and raids, leading to the apprehension of all three suspects. During their confessions, the accused revealed that they targeted Anupam Kumar Bhagat because he had testified in the Shailendra Bhagat murder case. They planned the attack and executed it with a pistol.
Based on the confessions, police seized an illegal pistol, five rounds of ammunition, a country-made firearm, a Bolero vehicle, and two mobile phones used in the crime. The arrested individuals are being placed in judicial custody. Efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in the case are ongoing.
Among the arrested, Ankit Yadav and Nayan Kumar Yadav are brothers residing in the village of Droupadi Rajapur, while Amar Kant Giri hails from Teteria Tikar village in Godda district. JPN Chaudhary, the DSP at Godda headquarters, stated that Ankit and Nayan Yadav are seasoned criminals with multiple cases of murder and extortion against them, having served time in prison previously.
