Pune, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), under India’s Ministry of Women and Child Development, successfully conducted its fourth regional consultative workshop in Pune, Maharashtra, on September 3. This event was organized in collaboration with the Maharashtra government and the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA).
The workshop was part of CARA’s ongoing “Awareness Campaign on Adoption 2025.” The campaign focuses on promoting non-institutional rehabilitation for children with special needs, particularly those with disabilities. Its goal is to encourage family-based care and adoption processes, ensuring that these children have opportunities to thrive in safe, loving, and supportive family environments.
The geographical and administrative scope of the Western Zone, which includes Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, is extensive. Given this broad reach, the workshop attracted over 150 stakeholders from more than 74 districts, providing a vital platform for regional discussions, information sharing, and collaboration on adoption and child rehabilitation matters.
Maharashtra’s Minister for Women and Child Development, Aditi Vardha Sunil Tatkare, addressed participants via video message. She encouraged all stakeholders to work together to strengthen the adoption framework and ensure better opportunities for children with special needs to find permanent, loving, and supportive family environments. She emphasized the importance of continuous cooperation, awareness, and coordinated efforts among stakeholders to advance family-based care and the comprehensive rehabilitation of children with disabilities.
During her address, Bhavna Saxena, the CEO and Member Secretary of CARA, highlighted the need for sustained and collaborative efforts to promote the adoption process for children with special needs. She noted that CARA’s outreach and advisory initiatives have contributed to strengthening the adoption framework. Saxena underscored the importance of continuing vigorous and coordinated efforts to enhance opportunities for these children to receive permanent family care.
