Kolkata, March 28: The third supplementary list for judicial adjudication cases in West Bengal was released on Saturday night around 10:15 PM. This list is now available on the websites of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal.
However, similar to the second list issued late Friday night, crucial details such as the total number of cases and how many names were removed are not immediately available. The ECI has not shared any official figures with the media either.
The first supplementary list was released at midnight on March 23.
Individuals whose names are removed during the verification process will have the opportunity to appeal. They can file their petitions with one of the 19 appellate tribunals established for this purpose.
It is noteworthy that approximately 6 million cases sent for judicial adjudication were not included in the final voter list released on February 28. It was decided that supplementary lists would be issued based on the progress of the adjudication process.
Before the special intensive revision (SIR) notification in November last year, the total number of voters in the state was 76,637,529. The draft list released in December saw 5,820,899 names removed, which increased to 6,366,952 in the final list published on February 28.
According to an official from the CEO’s office, it has now been decided to issue supplementary lists daily. Currently, over 700 judicial officers are involved in this process, including 100 officers from Jharkhand and Odisha.
West Bengal’s assembly elections will take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The first phase will cover 152 seats, while the remaining 142 seats will be voted on in the second phase. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
