Ranchi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Jharkhand High Court has directed the state government to complete the appointment process for the chairman and members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) within two months. The court has requested a compliance report by November 18. The order was issued during a hearing related to a public interest litigation concerning the shortage of officials and staff in the state’s forest department, presided over by Chief Justice MS Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar.
During the proceedings, the state’s Advocate General Rohit Rai and lawyer Vibhor Mayank informed the court that the appointment process for the JPSC chairman and members is likely to be completed within the stipulated time frame. Following this assurance, the bench allocated two months for the process and mandated the submission of a compliance report by November 18. The next hearing has been scheduled for November 19.
Previously, the High Court had requested the state government to provide a clear timeline for the completion of the JPSC appointments. During the hearing regarding the shortage of officials in the forest department, advocate Sanjay Piparwal, representing the JPSC, informed the court that the examination process for the positions of Assistant Conservator of Forest and Range Forest Officer had been canceled.
The court emphasized the need for timely completion of the appointment process for the top positions within the JPSC. The commission is responsible for conducting competitive examinations for various government services in the state, making the appointments of its chairman and members crucial for its operations and recruitment processes.
With the court’s directive for a compliance report by November 18, the government is now required to finalize the appointment process and update the court on its progress within the specified timeframe.
