New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi High Court held a hearing on September 10 regarding a defamation case filed by BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia against the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) and its leaders, Saurav Das, Abhijit Dipke, and Ashutosh Ranka. Bhatia is seeking ₹2 crore in damages.
During the proceedings, CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka agreed to remove social media posts that included fake quotes attributed to Bhatia. They confirmed that these posts would be deleted within 24 hours.
The court instructed the lawyers representing CJP and its leaders to consult with their clients about whether they wish to take further action against Bhatia’s posts. It was noted that an AI-generated banner related to the case had already been removed.
The court emphasized that there are various ways to express dissent and questioned whether such extreme measures were necessary. The judges acknowledged that they, too, have experienced similar challenges at a young age, recognizing the concerns of the CJP leaders.
Bhatia stated, “I am a law-abiding citizen, while the other party is manipulating images and using a channel’s logo for credibility.” He expressed disappointment that an ecosystem allowing such actions persists even after filing the petition.
No formal order was issued by the court. Both CJP leaders were instructed to seek guidance from their client following the recent social media activity, particularly a post made by Ashutosh Ranka on the platform “X” on September 5.
