Dehradun, July 29: Nestled in the sacred land of Uttarkashi, the ‘Power Temple’ is renowned for its spiritual significance and unique mythological narrative. The temple features a striking 6-meter (20 feet) tall trident, which stands as the main attraction of this revered site.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized its importance on social media. He shared a video on the platform X, stating, “The Power Temple, located within the premises of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttarkashi district, is dedicated to Mother Adi Shakti Bhagwati. This temple is considered a major center of deep faith for devotees. The ancient and divine trident enshrined here symbolizes strength, devotion, and the essence of Mother Bhagwati. Devotees worship it with utmost reverence and rituals.”
He added, “This sacred place, filled with religious beliefs and a spiritual atmosphere, offers every devotee a sense of peace and divinity. If you visit Uttarkashi, make sure to pay your respects at this holy Power Temple and receive the blessings of Mother Bhagwati.”
The temple is steeped in faith, with beliefs suggesting that the trident within was thrown by Goddess Durga in her powerful form, remaining steadfast in this location to this day. Crafted from iron and copper, this ancient trident is impervious to the elements, adding to its mystique and miraculous reputation. Situated directly opposite the Baba Kashi Vishwanath Temple, this sacred site is not only a significant center of faith but also a vibrant symbol of Uttarkashi’s cultural and religious heritage.
One of the trident’s most remarkable features is that it does not budge even under significant force, yet can be felt to sway with just a gentle touch from a devoted finger. The temple remains open year-round, attracting large crowds of devotees during the Char Dham Yatra and Navratri festivals.
Descriptions of this temple can be found in the Skanda Purana’s Kedar Khand. It is believed that during the Devasura conflict, Mother Durga (Shakti) vanquished the demons with this very trident, which was subsequently established here. Inside the sanctum of this power pillar lies a circular pot made of Ashtadhatu, installed by King Ganesh in the 13th century.
