Washington, August 21: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Walmart’s Executive Vice President for Global Public Policy and Government Affairs, Dan Bryant, engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing global market opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and artisans.
The primary focus of their conversation was to explore how to create broader opportunities for these sectors in the coming days. They also outlined plans related to the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027.
This dialogue took place during Patel and Bryant’s tour of Canada and the United States. The main goal of this visit is to attract global investors and boost trade ahead of the 2027 summit.
Gujarat is recognized as a hub for MSMEs. The discussions centered on two key points to make these industries more export-oriented: improving product quality and enhancing their reach in international markets.
Patel proposed joint workshops involving the multinational retail corporation and relevant state government departments. This initiative aims to identify regional capabilities of MSMEs and determine areas where they can be better positioned for global trade.
Bryant informed Patel that under the corporation’s growth program, over 115,000 MSMEs have received training since 2019. The company aims to train 170,000 MSMEs by 2028.
The meeting also focused on developing potential opportunities for Gujarat’s MSMEs and artisans over the next three to four months. The collaboration between the corporation and the state government was a key topic, aiming to identify suitable global opportunities and create a practical roadmap for bringing Gujarat-based enterprises and artisans into international markets.
Patel, Bryant, and members of the Gujarat delegation discussed the possibility of announcing a clear roadmap for collaboration at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027. This summit is the state’s premier global investment program, which the government intends to leverage for deeper engagement with international businesses and investors.
Patel arrived in Washington, D.C., after completing the San Francisco leg of his trip. His engagements in the U.S. include meetings with leaders in the technology and business sectors, as Gujarat seeks to strengthen international partnerships and attract investment ahead of the summit.
Present at the meeting were Chief Secretary M.K. Das, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance Department) T. Natarajan, Additional Chief Secretary (Industry Department) Mamta Verma, and the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Sanjeev Kumar.
