Jaipur, August 21: On the first day of the Rajasthan Assembly session, Speaker Vasudev Devnani expressed deep concern over the absence of the opposition. He urged members to participate in the proceedings and raise public interest issues within the established rules.
Devnani assured that the opposition would be given full respect. He emphasized the need for meaningful discussions between the government and the opposition to address issues affecting the people of Rajasthan and to uphold democratic traditions.
According to the Speaker, this was the first time in the history of the Rajasthan Assembly that opposition members were absent during the condolence motions on the first day of the session.
In his opening remarks, Devnani reiterated that the opposition is fully respected in the house and has the right to express their views and raise public interest matters. He encouraged members to participate with dignity and in accordance with the rules.
He explained that the opposition initially planned to gather at Gate Number 6 to enter the Assembly. However, he clarified that, as per established protocol, members are required to enter through Gate Number 7. Nonetheless, legislators arriving on foot can enter through Gate Number 6. This separate entry request was made entirely for security reasons.
The Speaker noted that the Assembly Marshal had reported previous incidents where unauthorized individuals had mingled with groups entering through the gate, raising security concerns. The real significance of the legislature lies in meaningful discussions between the ruling party and the opposition on matters related to the public. He stated that both sides play a crucial role in maintaining democratic traditions, parliamentary decorum, and finding solutions to public issues.
On Thursday, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also paid a courtesy visit to Speaker Vasudev Devnani in the Assembly, discussing current issues related to the state. Their discussions included Rajasthan’s development, strengthening democratic traditions, and matters concerning the broader interests of the state.
