New Delhi, August 26: The Great Khali, known worldwide as Dalip Singh Rana, is a name that needs no introduction. Standing at seven feet one inch, Khali carved a niche for himself in WWE, becoming the first Indian to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
Born on August 27, 1972, in Himachal Pradesh, Khali’s childhood was marked by poverty. Due to financial struggles, he had to drop out of school and started working at a young age to support his family. Unlike other children, Khali’s physique was exceptionally large from the beginning. There was a time in his life when he couldn’t afford shoes, which motivated him to earn enough money to escape financial hardships.
Khali initially worked as a stone cutter before securing a job as a security guard in Shimla. It was during this time that a Punjab police officer noticed his imposing stature and offered him a position in the police force, which Khali accepted. Although he had a stable government job, his ambition to achieve greater heights remained strong. While serving in the police, he began bodybuilding, which eventually led to his recruitment in the United States. From that point on, he never looked back.
Khali made his WWE debut in 2006, where he faced off against wrestling legends like The Undertaker, Triple H, Big Show, Batista, and John Cena, quickly rising to become the Heavyweight Champion within a year. He also showcased his talent at major events like WrestleMania and SummerSlam. In 2014, Khali was released from WWE but ventured into the film industry and appeared on the popular reality show ‘Bigg Boss.’
