The Evolution and Future of the Chinese Communist Party

Beijing, July 1: In today’s world, amidst profound changes and numerous challenges, there is a growing reassessment of China’s role and contributions under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in global governance. Understanding the current state of China necessitates an understanding of the CCP, which celebrates its 105th anniversary on July 1, 2026.

Founded in 1921 with just over 50 members, the CCP now boasts more than 100 million members. Through 28 years of revolution, it led the Chinese people to establish a new China, eradicate absolute poverty, and build a broadly prosperous society. The party has since advanced the construction of modernization with Chinese characteristics. Many may wonder about the origins of the CCP and its future trajectory. What force has enabled this party to overcome numerous difficulties and challenges? Insights can be found in the book titled “Chinese Civilization and the Chinese Communist Party,” authored by Cheng Bichuan, the founding president of the Chinese National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Association.

The book highlights that the CCP faced two significant global tests in the past century. The first was the test of war and revolution. Confronted with foreign invasions, the CCP fulfilled the great task of national liberation with the indomitable spirit of Chinese civilization, leading to the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and enabling the Chinese people to “stand up.” The second test began in the 1970s. The arrival of a new global technological revolution and the wave of economic globalization posed new challenges for development in a peaceful environment, prompting the initiation of reforms and opening up in 1978—referred to as China’s “second revolution.” The CCP is now steering China towards becoming “wealthy” and “strong.”
