Washington, July 1: The Indian Navy’s ship INS Sudarshini departed for New York on Wednesday. It will participate in the Sail Fourth to 350 New York and Sail Boston events. This journey reaffirms India’s commitment to maritime cooperation and showcases its rich maritime heritage to the world.
The Indian Navy announced on the social media platform ‘X’, “Next stop, New York. Advancing the ancient tradition of maritime travel and India’s rich maritime heritage, INS Sudarshini has set sail for New York. It will take part in the Sail Fourth to 350 New York and Sail Boston events. This journey demonstrates India’s strong commitment to friendship, cooperation, goodwill, and mutual trust among nations.”
Previously, INS Sudarshini participated in several significant events during its stay at the Baltimore port. During this time, India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and Maryland’s Lieutenant Governor, Aruna Miller, visited the ship. The crew also took part in the Baltimore City Parade.
The Indian Navy stated on ‘X’, “Strengthening maritime relations across the Atlantic. During its stay in Baltimore, the Indian Navy’s tall ship INS Sudarshini participated in several important events. Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller were welcomed aboard. The crew also participated in the Baltimore City Parade held under the Sail to 50 Maryland event.”
According to the Ministry of Defence, INS Sudarshini’s arrival at Baltimore port symbolizes India’s rich maritime heritage and the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Indian and American navies.
As part of its special transoceanic campaign ‘Lokayan 26’, the ship traveled from Norfolk, Virginia, arriving in Baltimore on June 26. During this journey, the ship passed through the historic Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal and navigated under several major bridges in the Mid-Atlantic region.
INS Sudarshini also participated in the Sail to 50 Virginia event held in Norfolk from June 19 to 23, which featured many tall ships from around the world. The Indian vessel represented the country in the Parade of Sail and the City Crew Parade.
