New Delhi, March 10: Yoga includes various poses that enhance strength and flexibility in the body. One such impactful pose is the Upward Facing Dog Pose, which invigorates the body and boosts energy levels when practiced regularly.
The term ‘Upward Facing Dog Pose’ originates from Sanskrit. This pose strengthens the spine and expands the chest and lungs. Regular practice increases the strength of the back, shoulders, and arms while also reducing mental stress.
This pose is a key component of the Sun Salutation sequence. It is performed as the seventh step, either in place of or following the Cobra Pose, which comes after the Ashtanga Namaskar. The Upward Facing Dog Pose stretches the front of the body and fortifies the spinal muscles. It is known for opening the chest and strengthening the lower back.
The Ministry of AYUSH has highlighted its significance, deeming it excellent for spinal health. According to them, practicing this pose reduces fatigue and strengthens the spine, arms, and shoulders. Additionally, it is believed to improve digestion and provide benefits for asthma sufferers.
Regular practice of the Upward Facing Dog Pose strengthens the back muscles and enhances shoulder flexibility. This pose is particularly beneficial for individuals who work in a seated position for extended periods.
Not only is this pose advantageous for physical health, but it also supports mental well-being. Practicing it on an empty stomach in the morning helps maintain freshness and energy throughout the day.
However, if you have any chronic injuries in your knees, hips, or lower back, consult a doctor or yoga expert before practicing. Pregnant women should perform this pose in a modified form only.
