In this context, the Ministry of AYUSH is recommending the practice of Gomukhasana, an easy yet effective yoga pose. This asana can be performed daily with a little time commitment. It enhances flexibility, strengthens muscles, and alleviates daily fatigue.

Gomukhasana, named for the position of the knees and legs resembling a cow’s mouth, particularly targets the shoulders, back, neck, and legs. It provides a thorough stretch for the body, making it accessible for beginners.

The Ministry of AYUSH outlines how to practice Gomukhasana. Start by sitting comfortably on the floor. Bend your left leg and place it near your right hip. Then, bend your right leg and place it over your left leg so that the knees stack on top of each other. Next, reach your right hand behind your back towards your waist and bring your left hand over your shoulder towards your waist. Try to clasp your fingers together. Begin by holding this position for 30 seconds, gradually increasing to 1-2 minutes while maintaining normal breathing. Switch your legs and arms to repeat on the other side.

Gomukhasana stretches and strengthens the body, improving flexibility and posture. It alleviates stiffness in the shoulders, neck, and back, reduces leg cramps, and enhances leg flexibility.
