Itanagar, June 21: Arunachal Pradesh Governor K.T. Parnaiik stated on Sunday that yoga has transcended geographical boundaries and is being embraced worldwide as a universal path to holistic health, mental wellness, and overall well-being.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu celebrated International Yoga Day in Tawang district, engaging with school children, the Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), officials, and citizens.
During the event held at Lok Bhavan, the Governor remarked that International Yoga Day represents global recognition of India’s timeless civilizational wisdom. He described yoga as a significant gift from India to humanity, offering a simple, affordable, and sustainable approach to preventive healthcare in an era plagued by stress, anxiety, lifestyle disorders, and sedentary living. He emphasized that the importance of yoga has surged in the post-pandemic world, where mental resilience, emotional balance, and a positive outlook on life have become essential.
Referencing the United Nations’ theme for the 12th International Yoga Day, “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” the Governor noted that yoga aids individuals of all ages, including youth, in maintaining physical fitness, mental alertness, emotional well-being, and self-reliance throughout their lives.
He stressed that yoga promotes good health, a calm mind, positivity, and inner strength, transforming it into a lifestyle rather than just an exercise. He encouraged people of all ages, particularly the youth and senior citizens, to incorporate yoga into their daily routines for a healthy and balanced life.
The Governor also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, which led to the adoption of International Yoga Day by 175 countries following his proposal at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Due to continuous efforts and global awareness campaigns, yoga has evolved into a worldwide movement that promotes health, peace, and human unity.
As part of ongoing efforts to promote holistic health and wellness, the Governor distributed copies of his booklet, “Yoga for Common Health Challenges,” to participants.
