Telanganas Chief Minister Challenges Keralas Claims with Economic Data

Hyderabad, April 7: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has penned a detailed letter to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. In his response, Reddy criticized Vijayan for relying on outdated data, stating, “This is my final response to you.”

In the letter, Reddy expressed gratitude for Vijayan’s correspondence but noted that he maintained a respectful tone while Vijayan resorted to harsh language. He assured that he would treat Vijayan with full respect when he visits Telangana.

Reddy accused Vijayan of using old statistics, particularly referencing the NITI Aayog’s SDG Index for 2023-24, which pertains to the last phase of the BRS-BJP governance that concluded in December 2023. He highlighted that the Congress government in Telangana has now completed 28 months in office.

Providing specific figures, Reddy stated that Telangana’s GSDP for 2024-25 reached ₹16.12 lakh crore, marking a growth rate of 10.1%, surpassing the national average of 9.9%. The per capita income has risen to ₹3.87 lakh, making Telangana the top state in the country for per capita income among large states, outpacing Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Kerala, according to the RBI’s ‘Handbook of Statistics 2024-25.’

Reddy remarked, “You are correct that Kerala’s achievements are cumulative. However, inform the people of Kerala about any new initiatives during your tenure.”

In response to Vijayan’s claim that “by the end of 2025, Kerala will be the first state to eliminate extreme poverty,” Reddy questioned the current situation in April 2026, noting that 64,006 families are still receiving micro-plans. He asked whether extreme poverty has truly been eradicated and if the announcement made on November 1, 2025, has been independently verified.

Addressing corruption, Reddy referenced the NITI Aayog’s rankings and questioned why the Kerala gold smuggling case remains unresolved, with names linked to the Chief Minister’s office. He also inquired about the whereabouts of 4.5 kilograms of gold allegedly misappropriated from the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.

Reddy highlighted his vision for “Telangana Rising,” aiming to establish a $1 trillion economy within a decade. He mentioned the development of a ‘Future City’ near Hyderabad and the ‘National Industrial Corridor’ in Zaheerabad. He concluded by wishing that Kerala’s new government would also realize the dream of ‘Nava Kerala.’

In closing, Reddy stated, “The people of Kerala will soon make their decision.”
