Hyderabad, February 23: Telangana police have cracked the mystery surrounding the death of writer and YouTuber Boggu Srinivas, arresting a close friend on murder charges.
According to police, the accused allegedly hired contract killers to orchestrate Srinivas’s murder. He then attempted to stage the incident as an accident by pushing the car, containing the body, into a reservoir.
The 48-year-old Srinivas’s body was discovered on February 14 inside a car at the Palair reservoir in Khammam district. Local fishermen alerted the police, stating that the driver had jumped from the car and fled during the incident. Upon retrieving the vehicle, police found signs of trauma on Srinivas’s head, raising suspicions. The next day, the body was identified as Srinivas.
A native of Allur village in Nandikotkur mandal of Nandyal district, Srinivas gained attention after publishing the book “Pawan Kalyan Hatao – Politics Bachao” in 2014. He reportedly received death threats during the book launch. His family expressed doubts about his death, prompting police to register a case and initiate an investigation. After a week of inquiries, police arrested Venu Madhav Reddy and three alleged contract killers, revealing the details of the case.
Khammam rural police informed the media on Sunday that the murder stemmed from a financial dispute. Assistant Police Commissioner Tirupati Reddy stated that Srinivas had allowed the accused, Madhav Reddy, to use his GST account for some business transactions.
Later, when Srinivas received notices from authorities regarding GST dues, he demanded cash payment as part of their agreement. Allegedly, when he pressured Reddy for this payment, Reddy conspired to eliminate him.
Police reported that Reddy hired three individuals from Bhadradri Kothagudem district—P. Koteswara Rao, Sheikh Abdul Hafeez, and Azmat Ali—to carry out the murder. Srinivas was killed near Narketpally in Nalgonda district while traveling by car to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.
After the crime, the accused pushed the car with the body into the Palair reservoir to make it appear as a road accident and mislead the police. All suspects have been arrested, and legal proceedings are underway.
